Melt and Pour Pumpkin Spice Soap
So this has been on my agenda for a very long time and I finally found the time to put it all together. Melt and pour soap is the way to go until I get enough guts to try the lye way. I’ll be honest, it scares a little and I don’t have enough space in the camper to make it happen without incident.
The fall season is upon us so in honor of that, I made a batch of melt and pour pumpkin spice soap. Oh. My. word. This stuff smells amazing! It is fairly simple, and if you know me at all I like things simple!
DIY so Simple it’s Almost Sinful
Yields: 4 (3 oz) soap bars
INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 block of (2 lb) melt and pour shea butter soap (suspension formula)
- 3-4 drops Vitamin E oil
- 2 tablespoons pumpkin pie spice
- Soap colorant (I used red and yellow)
DIRECTIONS
1. Cut the shea butter soap base in half. Place one of the halves back in the container.
2. Continue to cut the “squares” that are already scored into the soap and place in a medium microwave safe bowl. (I used a large Pyrex measuring cup).
3. Microwave until completely melted (around 30 seconds, depending on microwave wattage). Remove from microwave and stir.
4. Add 3 drops of red soap colorant and 6 drops of yellow soap colorant and stir. If you want a darker orange soap, add more red colorant. Stir well to distribute the color.
4. Add the vitamin E oil and pumpkin pie spice and stir to incorporate. (You want to make sure that your soap base is a suspension formula. This will allow the pumpkin pie spice to be distributed through out each soap bar instead of accumulating at the bottom).
6. Pour the soap evenly into your molds and allow to harden at room temperature for at least 2 hours. (Or you can chill for 1 hour to speed up the cooling process).
7. Once hardened, gently pop out each soap bar from the molds and ENJOY!!
I don’t think making soap at home could be any more simple. It was fun and easy and I plan on getting the kids involved with my next batch.
