It is quickly changing seasons and I’ll be honest, this is my favorite season of all. Fall. Autumn. Whatever you choose to call this season it is one of the best times to truly turn your house into a home.
Chilly weather usually means you’ll probably be spending more time indoors. If that’s the case, why not make it a cozy retreat? Here are a few simple ways to make your home into a comfortable environment that reflects the autumn season.
Seasonal Decor
A great way to incorporate fall into your home is to decorate it with autumn shades and tones. The warm colors of green, orange, red and yellow will add a splash of fall to your indoor oasis. Try adding throw pillows on chairs and sofas, adding real or faux seasonal flowers in a pretty vase, displaying autumn-inspired garlands and wreaths, and adding other fall decorative accessories here and there. Use your fireplace mantel, side tables, or bookcase shelves to create fall vignettes.
Add Cozy Pillows And Blankets
One of the best ways to inspire the warmth of the season is to have cozy blankets and pillows available for use. Soft blankets, quilts and big pillows invite you to snuggle in your chair or sofa while you read or watch a movie. Choose colors that compliment your decor. If you knit, consider creating a one-of-a-kind blanket. Perhaps you have a quilt that’s been handed down in your family. What’s more cozy than that?
Warm It Up
If you have a fireplace, make sure it’s in perfect working order for the fall and winter. If it needs to be cleaned, take care of that before you light your first fire. Make sure your heating system is in good working order, too. If you don’t have a fireplace, but like the look of one, consider investing in a faux fireplace. While it won’t emit heat, it will give the ambiance of warmth and you’ll enjoy snuggling up in your favorite blanket in front of it.
Lighting And Scents
Bring warm and cozy light into your home by using candles. If using real candles is a concern, there are now realistic flameless candles that flicker just like the real thing. Place them on your mantel and tables and create an inviting atmosphere. Use fall scents, either from burning scented candles, or diffusing essentials oils. Orange, pumpkin, clove and apple are delicious scents. If you love the scents of nature, try pine, fir, or eucalyptus.
Be Bookish
While you’re relaxing inside in front of your warm fireplace, all tucked in nice and cozy with your soft blanket and inhaling the comforting scent of apple and spice, grab that book you’ve been meaning to read and let yourself get lost in the story. What a perfect way to end the day!
Hmmm . . . I think I have my work cut out for myself. I best get a move on and implement some of these tips right away.
Enjoy your cozy home this season!
In His Grace,
Callie
